Your First NFT
The very first step required to embark upon your initiation into NFTs, and blockchains more broadly, is a wallet.
It's extremely important to take a little bit of time upfront to make sure you understand (at a very high level) the idea of a cryptocurrency wallet, and the fact that you will need a wallet in order to interact with blockchains and the applications built on top of them.
One of the most widely used wallets is called Metamask. They offer a web browser extension that makes your web browser compatible with blockchain apps.
- Install Metamask: https://metamask.io/download
- Secure your Metamask "Seed Phrase." Avoid keeping a copy of the Seed Phrase on ANY digital device if at all possible. Best practice is to write the Seed Phrase down in permanent ink at TWO separate secure physical locations like a personal safe or security deposit box. If you insist on keeping the Seed Phrase on a digital device it is imperative that you use a secure password manager like: http://keepersecurity.com/
- This might seem excessive and even border on paranoiac, but there have been some recent high profile loss of funds and NFTs because people did not properly secure their wallets. Taking the time and effort to do this properly now will save you from a lot more pain in the future.
- Once your Metamask wallet is set up, NFTs can be sent to and managed at the Public Address generated for you.
